THE MAIN CHARACTERS


De Brisay

 Emma

Emma is Tescelin and Eléonore's only daughter and heiress. Her father, the Count of Castelmirail wants her to marry with the noble man that he has just chosen for her. Will she approve this choice ?
She was born in 1200.

Eléonore 

 After an awful marriage, Eléonore Thomassin,  a young commoner, daughter of a rich taylor from Sarlat got married to the Count of Castelmirail. She's then years  younger than him and she hopes he will love her.

Tescelin

 Tescelin, Count of Castelmirail is the only son of the late Lothaire De Brisay. His first marriage with a cantankerous woman was a disaster, he dreams of a happy marriage with a nice woman who will give him a son or a daughter. The motto of his family is "Chivalry, Justice, Wisdom"


Hodierne

Hodierne is Tescelin's first spouse, she is ten years older than him. She is a cold and hateful and dimissive... The servants are scared by her.




De Tanguay

Macaire

 Macaire is the Baron de Torlac. He is boorish and violent ,  he isn't well educated, his bad manners don't suit his rank. He was born around 1140.

 Radulf 

 Radulf is Macaire's only son, he has inherited his father's vile behavior. He's almost illiterate and fights all the time for any reason, he often got drunk at the tavern. He was born in 1171.



De Longpré De Granbois 

Baudri

Baudri De Longpré De Granbois is the Duke of Puytargues, he's from of  high nobility and chose a lady from the same rank  for his only son. He is an upright and loyal man, but he can not bear being disobeyed, especially by Sanche. He was born in 1150.


Constance 

 She's Baudri's wife, she is very close to her only son . After  five misscariages at early stages of pregnancy  She had lost all hope  to have a child, when she gave birth to a son  in her forties . She was born in 1155.

Sanche 

Sanche is the only son of the Duke and the Duchess of Puytargues, he isn't interested by the privileges the nobility gives to him, he  hates violence and avoid to use it. He was born in 1198.

Bonnenfant/Harquin

Guy Bonnenfant

Guy Bonenfant is a cooper in Castelmirail, he's talented and he works hard. he is widower and does not have children. He needs a successor.


Graindor Harquin

 Graindor Harquin is Guy's apprentice, he's an orphan . He was only 14 when he asked Guy to hire him . The cooper was a bit reluctant, he finally accepted and quickly realized how talented this teenager was. Graindor became the best apprentice .Could Graindor be Guy' successor ?  He was born in 1196.


Chastain De Vaillancour 


Douce

Douce  Chastain De Vaillancour is the  Duchess of Puysel, she's Sanche's fiancée. She's one of the  flowers of  France and Navarre. She was born in 1197.


De Jarjalles 


Odon

Odon De Jarjalles, Marquis de Lanrosque is the best friend of Sanche, he was born in 1190.

Mahaut

 Mahaut De Jarjalles is Odon's wife, she knows how to use a sword, she was born in 1199.



De Mongenier De Chandonnet 


Archambault

 Archambault De Mongenier De Chandonnet, he's Tescelin's overlord ,  He's also Duke of Forgenoire and Count of Folval. He is Very old and his health isn't good, he wishes that his eldest son get married and get a son.

Dragonet

 Dragonet De Mongenier De Chandonnet, the eldest son, Despite his age he is not married yet, however he has illicit carnal relations with a woman who doesn't  belong to him. His father isn't aware of this. He was born in 1184.

Enguerrand 

 Enguerrand De Mongenier De Chandonnet is Archambault'  second son, he was born in 1187.
